Neck story, not the Nifty

Readers, here is a guest post from my lovely wife. She share's her Neck story, which started last year July and still looking for a climax.Ok, lets here from her own words

I came to US in July,2007 on H4. This is my first visit. Being new to USA, not much to do here, which forced me to look for laptop for entertainment. Having internet at finger tips and lot of time once hubby starts to office, I begin to explore WWW. Soon I realized the power of internet and started exploring in areas of my interest which is none other than Music. I started enjoying audio songs online and at the same time collecting the lyrics of my favourite numbers. I was so deep into this that in a day started collecting more than 30-40 numbers from various movies . I am happy, but there is something else happening without my knowledge . Yes , thats none other than the nerves around the neck which are getting hardened because of same posture of the neck.Within a week it hit hard on me and caused severe pain in the Neck.

I intially thought , its just like another neck pain and started applying few ointmnets got from India. No improvement seen, then moved to american medicines available over the counter like icepacks. Weeks gone there after by applying similar techniques, but of no use. Finally decided to visit the doctor and forced my Husband to get an appointment. We don't have a car at this time, so took help of my neighbour. Doctor conducted few tests like 'X-ray' and then told me that, the neck is tested severly without major motion for long hours and also root caused the reason .To my surprise it turned out to be the heavy usage of the LAPTOP

Doctor prescribed few medicines , some US top selling ice patches and then massage sessions (PT) thrice a week. Everything costed the insurance and so as me in the form of co pays. Now I am going through these and slowly recovering without knowing when will it come to an end.

Here is what i learnt during this time.

1. Do spent only limited time on laptop if you are not working in IT
2. Make sure to arrange ergonomics right ( seat position, height, vision etc)
3. Take small small breaks b/w the work and don't stare at laptop for long hours continuously
4. Do some neck exercises everyday if you are an IT engineer.
5. Last, but not the least, drink lots of lots of water

Make sure , you follow these before the similar story repeats for you.

Do you also have a similar story then share your thoughts and learnings in the comments.

enjoy the reading and benefit from it.

ADRs:
American Depository Receipts

Did you hear about the Indian ADRs like Infosys,Satyam,Tcs,ICICI Bank etc in the market reports and news ? What are these ADR's ? How are they different from stocks that we trade regularly ?

Continue reading below to find answers to the above.

ADR is a stock that trades in the United States but represents a specified number of shares in a foreign corporation.

ADRs were introduced as a result of the complexities involved in buying shares in foreign countries and the difficulties associated with trading at different prices and currency values.

ADRs were first introduced in 1927.

Two banks are generally involved in maintaining an ADR on a US exchange: an investment bank and a depositary bank. The investment bank purchases the foreign shares and offers them for sale in the US.The depositary bank handles the issuance and cancellation of ADRs certificates. The depositary bank sets the ratio of ADRs per home-country share. This ratio can be less than or greater than 1.

ADR's carry basically 3 levels of risks

1.Political Risk
2.Exchange Rate Risk
3.Inflationary Risk

How to rename BPEL project in JDeveloper

Its extremely difficult to change the process name once created in JDeveloper.

Although, there is a workaround by using Templates , to rename any of the existing BPEL process with the new name.

Here are the steps

1. Select the project which needs to be renamed and select from the context menu "mark as template"

2. Give a name to the teamplate and click on "OK".

3. Now create a new BPEL project with the desired name and make sure to select the template that you created from the template drop down.

4. Click ok, It will ask you to overwrite build.properties and build.xml files. Click OK

5. Now close the new project and reopen it to see the project with the desired name

How to do short selling in Indian Market

Shorting or short selling is the art of selling stocks without actually owning them with a view to repurchase them later at a lower price.Through this strategy one can make profits because of unexpected decline in the stock prices.

In India, Short Selling is not available to retail investors , but to FII's and Mutual funds.

Although, any investor can go short (which is differnt from short selling) , by executing

1.Through Futures : SELL order either in NIFTY or in Individual stock futures
2. Through Options : BUY order in PUTS on either NIFTY or Individual Stock options

The best time to go short is when Markets sentiment is bearish like the one that we see these days where everyday there is a fall of market in India,US and Asia.

Good news, From April 21st, any investor can do Short Selling in Indian markets with a condition that
"All investors will be mandatorily required to honour their obligation of delivering the securities at the time of settlement" which also means no one can do "naked short seling"

With this, now all categories of investors can lend the stocks they own and borrow the one's they don't.

All the stocks that are listed in F&O segement, will be available for Short Selling.

I do trading through "ICICI direct", although so far , there is no communication on availability of these in ICICI Direct.

Keep reading and benefit.

Insider Trading in RPL

Insider trading is the trading of a corporation's stock or other securities (e.g. bonds or stock options) by corporate insiders such as officers, key employees, directors, or holders of more than ten percent of the firm's shares.

Most of the times, it considers to be "illegal", but the term “insider trading” can also mean the perfectly legal buying and selling of stock by a company’s corporate insiders.

Insider trading is legal when these corporate insiders trade stock of their own company and report these trades to the exchange.Insider trading is only illegal when a person bases their trade of stocks in a public company on information that the public does not know.

On March 18th, “SEBI has informed that it has initiated an examination in the matter”, Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, Minister of State for Finance, said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. Read More on this news

Walstreet Today : March 18, 2008

Source : cnn.com/money

Markets ended with high on Walstreet today on account of Fed rate cut to take the interest rates to 2.25%. Dow bounced up by 420 points with a gain of 3.51%. Nasdaq and S&P are also closed in green with each gaining by more than 4%.

Triggers for today's market:
1. Fed cut the funds rate (short term lending rate) by 75 basis points taking it to 2.25% where as the market expectation is around expected 100 basis points cut. Refer to my blog post earlier on March 13,2008 and March 17,2008
2. the quarterly earnings from Lehman brothers and Goldman Sach's beaten the street's expectations
3.Dicount rate (effects bank loans) cut by Fed, to take them to 2.25%
4.Dollar gain against Yen in the currency market after hitting all time low on Monday.

Benefits of today's move:
All financial stocks based on the results announced by Lehman and Goldman

How it impacts India :
With the move by Fed in cutting 75 basis points and the way US markets responded to the news, SENSEX and NIFTY should open with positive gap up. The banking stocks and financial stocks which took severe beating over the last couple of weeks, should recover today and hopefully other sectors like IT and FMCG

My strategy :
Two strategies for today.
1. Go long till the sun outage from the time market opnes and then go short once the NIFTY crosses above 5500.
2.Buy PUT's at 5500 levels for a premium of around 100-125 and give atleast 3-4 trading sessions (Mostly next monday) to square off in March contracts.

Leave your strategy and suggestions in the comments.

Nifty F&O Strategy : March 18,2008

Is it safe to trade in Nifty at these levels ?

At the time of writing this blog entry NIFTY is trading with a premium in the march futures market at 4550 as against the spot price of 4535. Is this the sign of next up move atleast for the rest of the day.

Here is my strategy for today.

Buy march futures above (1 Lot - 50) @ 4500
Square Off @ 4550 which is day's high so far.
Limit Order - Square off @ 4480 to book the loss

target : net net 2000 INR in case profit, 1000 INR in case loss

What's ur strategy ? leave the comments.

Walstreet Today : March 17,2008

Source : CNN.com

Markets ended flat after volatile session. Dow added around 20 points after losing at one time around 200 points with the news related to Bear Streams deal.

Events took place related to this volatality

1. JP Morgan Chase agreed to buy Bear for just $2 a share, or $236 million. That's less than 4% of Bear Stearns' value at the close of trading on Thursday. On Friday, Bear shares plunged 47% to close at $30 a share. One year ago, the stock was worth nearly $160

2.Fed emergency Meeting on Sunday : The Fed cut the discount rate, a short-term bank lending rate, to 3.25% from 3.5%, to promote more liquidity to the markets

What tomorrow : The Federal Reserve is expected to cut the fed funds rate when it meets on March 18,2008 which will be not less than 100 basis points as per the market expectations.

How it impacts India : With today's volatile session on Walstreet, Indian market also expected to follow the same trend as yesterday. But It can recover from lows as all these bad news already absorbed on Monday's trade which seen SENSEX tanking more than 1000 points with major contribution from Banks especially ICICI bank hitting its 52 week low.

Weak Global Cues from US for March 13,2008

With weak global curs and new high's of crude oil, the Indian Market is expected to open with gap down of atleast 50 points in Nifty 50.

The Dow, which set record high yesterday, closed the day down with 0.3% and Nasdaq with 0.5%.
Right now, the asian markets are trading weak losing by around 3%.

The same may be seen in today's trade on Sensex and Nifty.

Further updates..after closing bell.

Indian Markets : March 12,2008

Source : NSE India

The market witnessed a spurt in opening trade tracking strong global markets but pared some of its early gains following disappointing index of industrial production figures for January 2008. The market breadth turned negative in late trade, Metal shares declined on profit booking. S&P CNX NIFTY closed at 4872.00 up by 6.10 points

Index futures saw a trading volume of Rs.18954.24 crores arising out of 801054 contracts and Index options saw 231797 contracts getting traded at a notional value of Rs.5843.53 crores. The total turnover of the Futures & Options segment of the Exchange was around Rs.44632.78 crores

Markets Close flat after positive opening

At the closing bell , Indian markets are almost flat with nifty gaining just 6 points (up by 0.32%) from the previous day closing.

Earlier, at the opening bell, backed up with excellent global queues from US and Asia, the NSE opened with positive gap up by more than 100 points with 5010 on Nifty50.

The industrial growth numbers came in the afternoon which showed that January Industrial growth is at 5.3% as against 11.6% (YoY). With this news, when the market reopens after sun outage , the selling started which pulled back the NIFTY to 4700-4800 levels.

From here on, it looks like, NIFTY is going to retest the January levels of 4600.

Dow @ all time high today in 5 years time , Will Sensex follow....?

With great cues from global market's including US and Asia, the expectation in dalal street is for a great opening today.

In my view , Nifty should open on a positive gap of at least 100 points to take the index to 5000 above levels. But will it be able to sustain above by end of the closing ? Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I planning to exit from some of the counter's today. lets see...

Oil sets record and Stocks stumble in Wallstreet

Oil reached 108$ per barrel in today's trade to set all time new record high.

Fears of recession gloomed over DOW and NASDAQ causing them to close on Monday with 1.95% and 1.29% respectively.

These global queues are not good for Asian market's including India when they wake up tmrw , which recovered yesterday from day's lows. We can expect a gap down opening of NIFTY and it may slide down to 4600 and 4550 levels.

Housing Bubble and India

Is Housing Bubble there in India ? Lets understand in simple terms.

What is Bubble? :
If any trade happens with high volumes because of speculation well above the intrinsic value. Identifying this bubble in real time is impossible and only can be identified after retrospect, when there is a sudden drop in the price which will casue the bubble to burst. Also referred as crash.

Housing bubble :
It's a bubble describe above that occurs in local or global real estate markets.

How to Identify :
It is characterized by rapid increases in the valuations of real property until unsustainable levels are reached relative to incomes, price-to-rent ratios, and other economic indicators of affordability

How does this effect ?
Housing Bubble causes the sudden decrease in home prices that can result in many owners holding negative equity—a mortgage debt higher than the value of the real property.

Where is it in India :
You can see everywhere in India (hyderabad, Chennai , mumbai and many more..)

Cricketers : One more chance to make money

Yes, Cricketers will be auctioned again for upcoming IPL on 11th march in Mumbai.

This time , in my view the hot favorites are ,

1. Ashraful ( Bangladesh )
2. Mohammad Yousaf (Pakistan)
3. Misbah-ul-Haq (Pakistan)
4. Ashwell Prince ( South Africa)

If you are a national or international cricketer and not already auctioned or listed in the second auction , you lost the golden opportunity to make it to IPL as there will be no more auctions for the current season.

The IPL starts on 18th April.

Btw, My favorite for inaugural IPL is none other than "Hyderabad". What about yours ? leave it in the comments

Custom Domain User Management in Oracle BPEL PM 10.1.3.3

Context : In order to control the access to the business process developed in BPEL there is a need to segregate the process into different domains especially when there are different Business Teams uses the same Process Manager. For each of the domain, there is a need to create different roles which can be assigned to users who can view/modify/execute the processes in that domain

Here I will share the findings on how user management can be done in a custom domain ( not the "default") for Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.3. I will talk about the details steps to create a custom domain and then create roles and assigning the roles with proper permission to access the custom domain. The security provider used is JAZN which is File Based Security provider based on JAAS. It also details the steps when the BPEL is installed with default OC4J instance (home) or different OC4J instance

Steps to create a Custom Domain
1. Login to Oracle BPEL PM as BPEL Administrator
2. Click on BPEL Domains
3. Click on “Create New BPEL Domain”
4. Enter the Domain Id as “custom_domain”
5. Click on Create to complete the Custom Domain Creation

User Management for Custom Domain (custom_domain)

Oracle BPEL PM comes with a domain “default”. It also comes with certain responsibilities which controls the access to this domain. The roles related to this “default” domain includes

BPMDefaultDomainAdmin
This role is to control the access to the “default” domain.
BPMSystemAdmin
This role is to control the access to the entire BPEL PM including the “default” domain and all other custom domains

Steps to implement for allowing access to Custom Domain (custom_domain)

BPEL Installation in Default OC4J instance

1. Navigate to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home ($ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/)
2. Create the Role with name (BPMCustomDomainAdmin)

$ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\home>java -jar jazn.jar -user oc4jadmin -password welcome1 -addrole jazn.com BPMCustomDomainAdmin

3. Grant permissions to the role created in step (2) above

$ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\home>java -bootclasspath/a:$ORACLE_HOME\bpel\lib\orabpel-boot.jar -jar jazn.jar -grantperm jazn.com -role BPMCustomDomainAdmin com.collaxa.security.DomainPermission custom_domain all

4. Now create the users and assign the the above role

5. Restart the BPEL oc4j

5. Login to BPELConsole.

BPEL Installation in different J2EE home (oc4j_soa)

1. Navigate to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home
2. Copy all the jar files and lib folder in this directory to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/oc4j_soa
This step is very important , if not the entries created further will get added to home system-jazn-data.xml
3. Navigate to $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/oc4j_soa
4. Create the Role with name (BPMCustomDomainAdmin)

Basis Point

source : investopedia.com

What's is Basis Point ?

A basis point is a unit of measure used in finance to describe the percentage change in the value or rate of a financial instrument. One basis point is equivalent to 0.01% (1/100th of a percent) or 0.0001 in decimal form. In most cases, it refers to changes in interest rates and bond yields.

The easiest way to convert basis points into a percent form is by simply taking the amount of basis points and multiply by 0.0001 which will give the percent in decimal form
