The market edged lower on opening bell tracking subdued-to-weak trend in Asian markets before bouncing back shortly. It remained range bound in afternoon trade after it pared most of its earlier gains. Capital goods stocks rose on reports Finance Minister P Chidambaram met representatives from auto and capital goods industries to discuss industrial slowdown after recent weak Index of Industrial Production (IIP) numbers. S&P CNX NIFTY closed at 4747.05 up by 37.40 points.
